I ran into 2 shapeshift problems il my fist gaming session. one of the character has Shapeshift +10 with mimic (powers) with the Exact, expanded powers x2, and ranged extras. She has also the photographic memory feat.

During the fight with the false freedom league (johny rocket, thunder and liberty). The shapeshifter wanted to assume the form of a flying hero if she could remember of one, at that time I said to her that she could shapeshift yes, but only mimic powers in range, so instead she took the shape of lady liberty first then captain thunder, ans she got their power (not all the powers and not at the same time) and so it goes... but after the adventure, when I was going home, I think about it and opened my game book to reread the power: both the mimic power and the shapeshift one. Mimic says that she must be at 500 feet or less to use her power (ranged extra and 10 ranks) and the Mimic taken as an extra saiys that she can dupicate one of the subject attributes by assuming his form, so I think about it and imagine, what are the use if she can olnly mimic the power of a form within 500 feet, what if she shift int omega and omega is not here, she won'ta have his powers ? (less powerful yet). it is not really an attack, it is just having some abilities of the form she assumes. So

Mimic as en extra:

- can only be use with target in range and present in that range ?
- does the target need a will saving throw, since it is not really an attack
- can the shapeshifter can mimic someone who is no there (if he knows him or have seen his powers) and still have acces to his powers (limited by shapeshift ranks), does the mimicked perso who is not there mus make a save ? so does the ranged extra is needed ?
- does the shapeshifter have to chooses (if he takes the base mimic extra) to mimic only powers or only feats or only attributes ?


About protection as an extra of shapeshift:

it is said that it permit to have the damage save or hardness rating of the subject. Does it includes the protection power of the targer instead of an amazing save ? Example in play, the shapeshifter during the fight assumes the form of lady liberty, I assumed that it have also the 8 rank protection of lady liberty, but after the game I was not sure...

I would say look close at his/her power. The duration should be that of the power. So, once he/she stops copying Cpt. Thunder they could take his form, but not his powers. I'd also say yes they can only mimic when the person is present, they need the 'template' to copy. I don't know about the Will save, there are people more intelligent than I on here and I leave that to them. Yes on the last question. They need to pick what they want to copy, anything else is an extra. On that note, if they didn't take 'All Attributes' I'd THINK they can only copy one power at a time.

Is this another of your Power Ranger comments? I really hate to tell you, but I never personally watched the show. About the only time I had ever saw it is when this over weight, under washed GM I used to game with would turn it on to watch them in costume run around doing stupid fight scenes. I pointed out a fact I was told, "You know, they're all men in costume," soon after that my PC was killed. Aparently he had the hots for the Pink Ranger in costume. To say I hated the show is to put it politely, if you'd like Thursday I can use all the explanatives that would get me banned from the board.

faenril, it's ultimately up to you to decide the exact limits of the powers in your campaign. Certainly, the ability to mimic any character's powers by assuming their form is a powerful one!

You may wish to require that the character be in range to mimic the target's powers, at least initially.

Shapeshift does allow a character to acquire the target's hardness and damage save, but generally the shapeshifter only gains the target's Protection if he is able to mimic the target's powers.
