New Power

[Badger of Doom]

I put this together as a sort of "Dune" inspired alternative to Cosmic Power, and I thought I'd share it with y'all.

Power Word
Cost:6
Action:Varies
Range:Varies
Duration: Varies

You know bits and pieces of an ancient and long forgotten tougue. The words, when spoken aloud, have supernatural effects. You ust be able to speak to use this power. Power Word grants you the following abilities at your power rank:

-You can turn away attacks like Deflection, using your power rank as a modifier for solid projectiles (like cars, etc...) instead of strength.
-You can weaken or destroy matter like Disintigration.
-You can fire Energy Blasts of kinetic energy at normal range.
-You can surround you body in a Force Field
-You can render a target immobile like Paralysis.

Extras
-Boost: You can improve an attribute like Boost
-Explosive Blast: Your energy blast can spread out a radius of 5'xpower rank

Flaws
-Missing effect: For each effect of Power Word that you can not use apply a flaw to the power.

First off, welcome to the boards!

Second, I am a huge fan of Dune, so it's cool to see this write-up. From what I can see, I'd say that the base power is a bit expensive at 6 per rank since you have 3 attack effects, and 2 would normally be able to be purchased as Power Stunts. If you wanted to keep the power at a nice even pp per level cost, I'd actually recommend dropping it to 5pp/level. This would be fudging the rules a bit, but I don't think it would make it overpowered.

I look forward to seeing other ideas. Have you considering doing Mentats or other parts of the Dune universe?

This is aweome Badger, I'm also a Dune fan and think that this is a really cool concept. I think mentats would be intereting to see as well.

yeah, i was just going with the book rule of effects+1=cost; but you do make a really good point.

Doing more "Duneveloping" (haha) would definetly be cool...I think I'd have to read the book again though...its been a looooong time.

well really it adds up to 5 points, since you have to speak the words like sorcery then it has a built in flaw, but i would drop the two stunts that are in the power and just make them that, stunts.

so it would be 3 points a rank plus 2 stunts and two extras... i think

As A dune-ahoilc myself I would really enjoy seeing more of the Dune universe done - Mentats would make for a great NPC/PC concept of some stranded alien working to protect or take over their new "Blue Planet" home....

I think someone on this board posted a "Mentat Serum" new power. that might be a place to start. Of course, I cringe imagining the PL of a Sandworm, to say nothing of Paul's son (whose name escapes me at the moment).
