Suggestions for future products

Postby Jon Snow » Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:03 am

Just saw GR tweet where they're having their summit meeting tomorrow and want to know what suggestions the fans have. Let's post 'em here.

I would like to see a book that really expands the house creation, investment and management stuff.

What would you like to see?

A House Creation book with more detail and alternate rules for using the general house rules for mercenary companies, khalasars, and the like would be really interesting.

A "sourcebook" on the East would be interesting also. Some details on Unsullied, Warlocks, and other things that I'm being vague about to avoid spoilers would be very useful for a wide-ranging game or games set outside of Westeros. Obviously, there would need to be huge spoiler warnings on the book, but... it would still be nice information to have.

Here are my suggestions:

- A Player's Companion, with new Benefits & Drawbacks, new House Holdings, a system for Superior/Extraordinary Armors and for other types of equipment, expanded equipment, poisons and vehicles, or anything else to make players a happy bunch. ;)

- A Narrator's Guide, with new rules (like sailing) and other rules clarifications, new pre-made NC's generic templates for Tertiary, Secondary and Primary Characters, new animal templates (including aquatic creatures, exotic/Essos creatures, venomous creatures, etc.), prices for basic services (food / drinks / lodging / sellswords / whores), or anything else to run a good campaign.

I would echo the calls for an expanded Westeros guide with extra house creation rules with expanded holdings and house management, prices (and more realistic prices) for a greater range of basic goods, sailing rules (including an example of naval combat), more qualities and drawbacks. I would also echo the calls for a sourcebook on Essos with more setting detail than we have in the current chapter, including how to use the house creation rules for things like Free Cities merchant families, mercenary companies, khalasars etc. more qualities and drawbacks.

Can I add a request for an historic Westeros sourcebook. The periods I think are most interesting without being too far removed are the Blackfyre Rebellion and the period afterwards upto the Dunc and Egg stories, Aegon's conquest, Daeron I's attack on Dorne, the invasion of the Rhoynish into Dorne, the Dance of Dragons but life is rarely dull in Westeros politics. I think what it would need is two things. The first is more detail on the the major players in each time period, e.g. King, Queen and major royals (or the equivalent for other factions) , small council/royal advisors, any other major figures e.g. war leaders or significant other court figures. The second would be more detail on the major events in each historical period and the events that lead up to them. This would give the GM enought of a skeleton to flesh out a campaign whithout breacking canon if the campaign is staying true to Westeros history or it would give the GM enough to be able to write a campaign that breaks canon if the campaign isn't. This may well require significant input from GRRM so I admit it is less likely.

Also a Court book would be really useful. A bit on how each Region is ruled and flavour on each court (Dorne, The North, The Vale, The Stormlands, The Iron Islands, The Westerlands, The Reach, The Riverlands). And then more information on the King's Court, the major offices outside the Small Council, how it should fit together (before personailities and politics gets involved), how the area around Kings Landing is ruled directly, etc. This could include a flavour of courtly activities and how they ebb and flow with the incredibly long seasons. Most of this can be brought together from the books and different sources on the courts of England, Scotland, France & Spain (to name but four) but it would e great to get that all pulled together and published officailly with GRRM's stamp of approval...

I will echo all of the above and stress a sourcebook with more clarified rules on all kinds of conflict resolution (combat, intrigue, warfare). While all three have an excellent, solid base, they could use a lot of polishing.

Of course, knowing me, I'd still houserule them all over again so I'd say probably information about the fluff is much more important :p

Something else I would love to see: card stock heroes like those that come in the Pathfinder Beginner Box!

These would be a cheap and convenient way of providing suitable minis - even of the named characters without stepping on the toes of Dark Sword or whoever makes the pewter ones.

For those unfamiliar, the Pathfinder box comes with sheets of heavy card stock punch outs that you stand in the bases provided. Pretty neat!

Here are some that I would like to see:

Region books: Beyond the Wall, North, Iron Islands, Riverlands, Vale of Arryn, Westerlands, Crownlands, Reach, Stormlands, Dorne, Essos (possible split in several books).

Gods of Westeros: A book detailing the religions and organizations in Westeros)

Realm at Peace: Containing stuff about the Court, how things works in peace and stuff like that

Realm at War: Discussing all aspects of war in Westeros

Historical setting books: Fire and Blood (detailing the Targaryen time with rules concerning dragons), Seven Kingdoms (when there were several independent kingdoms in Westeros) and Andal Invasion (set during the time of the Andal's invasion of Westeros when the land was covered with petty kingdoms)

I would really like an expanded rules (like Household) in order to smothly manage merchants, organisation of any sort, tribe of the Vale mountains, Night Watch ecc...I know that you are working at them!

Of course expanded historical details and Essos sourcebook would be interesting.

That one I think would be one of the best choices.

I'd also go for one giving a different focus to the game, just as the Night's Watch will. In that line, think a Sellword/Mercenary Company Sourcebook would be good; and one focused on a Naval Campaign.

Other than whats already been suggested I'd like to see books with more stuff for the players. just more to flesh things out.

a guide on how to run epic levels. I've noticed that once you get a 6+ in something you are near invincible to most normal folk and long term campaigns can get there pretty quick if players specialize heavily.

I'd like to see scenarios. Yeah many people don't like them but I love them so that I can mine them for ideas, to expand my games.

maybe a guide for running complicated long term intrigues. Not just the system but mainly from an organizational point of view, like how to build relationship maps and managing them, suggestions on how to change affections down the line based on character actions, etc.

those are some things I'd like to see.

I'll second the sentiment for more rules for house creation. In my opinion, house creation and management is what makes this system stand out from other systems - along with the Westeros setting.

From experience, the Warfare system needs some work. Anything over a few units per side gets confusing. A book on mass combat would be very welcome, in my opinion.

I would love more pre-made chronicls to run, I like Wedding Knight and Peril at Kings Landing, I would love more along the same vein.

Perhaps a small editable pdf Map of Westeros. GM can small tweaks to events impacting cities/towns it also would be helpful if your campaign takes place in different time period of Westeros.

Some sort of benefit for having a town as part of your holding. It's super expensive and not really beneficial mechanically while mines and ports are. Seems to be that it should be listed.

Same with bridges. The Frey's owning a bridge plays a MAJOR part of the whole book series but there isn't really an option to have a bridge other than making it part of a road.

From a newbie to ASIFRP :
I would like to see more information on the Religions of the Realms, customs, rituals, festivals. Especially the Old gods, i'm sure the wildings have many old rituals they do for the old gods.
Also information on the Maesters of the citadel, the knowledge and science they learn .You could do an entire book on that!
More info and maps on the the other big locations, Old town, Storms end, Dragonstone, Riverrun, the Eyrie......
