[March Monster Madness] The AGE Monster Design Challenge 2

Cultist worshipers of Urthemiel, the Old God of beauty, created this terrible abomination by sewing together all of the pieces of their victims that they found to possess the most beauty. The result, however, is anything but beautiful. The head has multiple faces sewn to it, all with vacant stares. Each arm or leg is actually several arms and legs sewn together. And, the body itself is a seemingly random collection of chunks of flesh and grafts of skin. Due to the numerous lives that went into its creation, when the cultists summoned a demon to give life to this monstrous body, not just one came, but many. They are Legion.

That's excellent - and creepy! I like the way the various 'chunks' take on different powers too!

I ran the Flesh Legion against a group of 5 level-5 PCs last night. Went great. And they had even just battled a Wyvern without taking a breather or healing (totally their fault). The consensus was "that was nuts, but awesome." I felt like the fight dragged on a little more than I would have liked, but nobody else seemed to think so, so I'll chalk it up to the wine

Oh sweet. I may squeeze the Flesh Legion into the next adventure I run.

I plan on having the Reaper appear as part of a story arc soon.

I solicited specific feedback from one of my more expert players. He agreed that it was a great fight, but it felt a little long. We both like the idea of making it so that the Smalls do NOT generate Tinies upon death, but each of the other tiers (Large, Medium, and Small) do generate Tinies upon taking 15 points of damage at once (an ability usually reserved for Large).

He doesn't know this, but I plan to have them run into at least one more of these before the current adventure is done, so I'll let you know how it turns out with that revision.

I actually made a video about this subject of monsters and went as far as to suggest that they should be mostly uniques, as in only one of them in the world. I mainly refer to Dragon Age in my talk.
