Floor Plans

Postby jinx » Tue Jul 29, 2003 1:55 pm

Has anyone created any good general use floor plans for buildings, streets etc?

I've looking at using Visio to do it. Anyone had any success with it or anything else?

Visio is a good program it is just expensive to buy, and not many people will have it to view the files. Just remember to save them in a format many people can use, if you are going to share them.

Hey there,

Try this link. WOTC put their untagged Urban Arcana D20 Modern maps and floorplans on their site for download:

UA Maps & Floorplans

Enjoy.

When I was sneaking around the MA (metamorphosis alpha) website via FanPro games on that forum one of the posters made up an adventure for download and in that program was professional quality maps. I looked at how they were created apparently there is a website with a program you can down load and then down load many templates to get anything from sci-fi to western to ice cave flooring. Pretty cool stuff its a 'build a tile' type so you put graphics in to a base map as you see fit, not hard to do or learn to use. And its free just takes you time to download and especially all the templates which are plentiful.

No its not the best possible mapping program known to man but for PDF style home-brewed or even sellable pdf adventures it gets the job done.

Not only that, but there is a new, full-color modern map in every issue of Dungeon/Polyhedron every month! If you play any d20 at all, this might be a good investment (there's a lot more than just D&D stuff in there).

I am going to shamelessly plug our own Modern Day Maps series. Here is the link:

Having purchased the first set, I have to say, these are pretty good. They're not ultra high-quality, but they're still better than anything I could do myself and they're a great timesaver! As a bonus, they include a lot of maps that you just don't find anywhere else (like an aircraft wreck). If I could make only two suggestions, they would be:

1) A gridding system. I know that a lot of people don't like thier maps cluttered with squares, but I think that a very light grid in the background would make them a lot more useful to me.

2) Color. Everything looks better with color!

LMPjr007-> I'm thinking of getting the Modern Maps X from rpgnow (after reading the above stuff)

I just have a few questions:

How big are the maps? One page each, or bigger/smaller by default?

Is there a scale that is constant to all the maps?

Reason I ask is because our group uses a string with sharpie dots on it for 5 foot incriments, instead of a grid, and I want to know how well it will work out if we try use this product. It wouldn't be a hastle to make one new string, but it would to make a string for each map.

thanks!
I'm not mrobviousjosh or DocObvious, just some other guy. Obviously.

These are good. I like the 3D image of them too. Aid the visualisation of them too.
